Notes from the Living Archive
How 137 books became one continuous document.
By Robert Shumake · · 1 min read

People ask how many books are in the series. The honest answer is one, written in installments.
The archive method
Every morning: read one page of an older volume, annotate it, and write forward from the annotation. The archive edits itself.
Rules of the archive
- Nothing is finished, only published.
- Contradictions stay in; they are evidence of movement.
- Field notes outrank theory.
An archive that cannot change is a tomb.
